Hypotenuse is AI writing software optimized for e-commerce, social media captions, and copywriting. Unlike other AI writing software I’ve reviewed, Hypotenuse AI boasts specific features and workflows directly suited for e-commerce use cases. And it certainly delivers with its bulk import features and product catalogs.

Hypotenuse AI offers a variety of features. Many overlap with other AI writing tools, but the bulk content generation and product catalog make them different.
Hypotenuse AI features include:
- Batch generation – you may have a lot of products you want product descriptions for. Bulk generate high quality content with this feature by importing via CSV or Shopify.
- Product catalogs – are a way to organize and store all of your products in one place so that you don’t have manually update your product descriptions back and forth between tools
- Image generation – generate AI art using the image generation feature
- Content detection – fact check your articles and quickly find sources with content detective
- Blog article writing – through a guided blog post writing workflow, you’re able to generate titles, outline, and a full article with more nuanced control than Article Forge
- Product descriptions – generate high quality product descriptions
- Social media captions and ad copy – includes an Instagram caption generator, Google ads generator, Facebook ads generator, among others
- Content rewriting – with the paraphrasing tool, you can insert sentences or paragraphs to be reworded
- Summarization – summarize existing content
Since the product catalog and the bulk generator features differentiate Hypotenuse AI from other AI writing software, I want to go in a bit more detail about those two features.
Product Catalogs
Catalogs are a collection of products. It’s a way to organize your products by season, brand, or some other way that works for your business.
You would create a catalog and then fill in the details related to your product.
It’s a helpful way to manage all of your generated product descriptions in one tool.
Once you’ve gotten everything the way you want it, you can export it to a CSV, to Shopify directly using the integration, or via the API.
Bulk Generate
If you’re an e-commerce website and have thousands of products, nothing could be more tedious than having to manually transfer each product onto another website. It would take forever! Luckily, Hypotenuse AI has a way to bulk import your products into the product catalog.
You can do it by uploading a spreadsheet into the tool. Hypotenuse offers helpful support documentation to walk you through this process.
You can also import your products directly though the Shopify integration.
After importing all your different products, you can bulk generate product descriptions by selecting the “Bulk Generate” button in the product catalog.
From there, you can choose to generate product descriptions for all products, the current page, or individually select multiple products.
AI Technology
Hypotenuse AI does not disclose on their website exactly what they use to power their AI technology. When I asked their team, they told me that they use a unique combination of different large language models and AI techniques. I notice a lot of overlaps with the types of content Hypotenuse produces with GPT-3, so I assume that’s one of the large language models used.
Free Trial
Hypotenuse offers a 7-day free trial, but no free plan. There’s no credit card required to make an account. You create an account, verify your email, and start using the tool.
Pricing Model
Hypotenuse’s pricing model centers around the amount of credits you think you need to use per month. To put it in perspective, generating a product description costs 1 credit and generating an article costs 4 credits.
It’s a subscription based model. There are three tiers:
- Starter: offers 100 credits per month; best for freelancer or solo entrepreneurs
- Growth: offers either 350 credits or 700 credits per month depending on which you select; best for companies with developed marketing channels
- Enterprise: offers custom credits and pricing; best for large companies with complex needs
What Hypotenuse AI Does Well
Overall, Hypotenuse AI is a high-performing, well-designed tool. It offers easy to access language options, a delightful user experience, helpful educational content, plagiarism detector, API access, and image generation.
Languages Supported
Hypotenuse AI supports over 25 different languages. If the language you want to use isn’t on their language list, you could try reaching out to them because it might be in their beta program.
The language feature is well placed within the overall user experience of Hypotenuse. If you want to change the input or output language, you can do so using the “Language” button in the top right corner of every page.
This could really come in handy when generating product descriptions for your store to serve different nationalities and countries.
User Experience
Overall, Hypotenuse has a very nice user experience. It’s a well-designed tool and easy to use. I wanted to mention a few things I like in particular including the loading screens, sharing articles, and the blog post writing workflow.
Blog Post Writing workflow
Hypotenuse AI makes it easy to write articles using the blog post writing workflow. It’s designed to help people write an article based off of some details they provide about a topic and take it from there. You can include information about the keywords you want along with information about your brand and product, if that’s relevant for you.
The workflow takes you through title ideas and helps you generate an outline. At every stage, you can customize the suggestions.
After you approve the title and outline, Hypotenuse AI generates an article for you. From there, you can decide if you’d like to refine it further.
Article Sharing
An interesting feature that Hypotenuse AI introduced is article sharing. It enables you to create a public link to share the article with others for proofreading it. Or even just reading it. Maybe you don’t have a blog or just want to share something you wrote with Hypotenuse AI, so you can share the link publicly.
The shared link is completely public: no sign in required. It’s formatted well and looks like a nice article.
I haven’t seen something like this in other tool so far, so I thought I’d mention it.
Just for fun: Delightful Loading Screens
Instead of keeping their users waiting and making them feel frustrated at the wait, Hypotenuse AI has done a great job of making fun loading screens that give the impression that something is going on behind the scenes. This is a good UX practice because it takes off some of the impatience and gives an illusion of something happening. I’ve seen a number of AI writing services take a long time to generate content and you’re sitting there wondering why it’s taking so long.
Educational Material
Hypotenuse offers a robust documentation and help section. There are various guides and details on how to make best use of the platforms. Where it makes sense, there are also video walkthroughs.
Plagiarism Detection
The plagiarism checker, powered by Copyscape, scans the internet in real-time for similar content in your article. It then shows you how similar your content is to another website. You can view the original content directly using the plagiarism checker tool.
The plagiarism checker is n the Growth plan and the Enterprise plan, but not the Starter plan.
API/Webhooks
Hypotenuse offers access to their API and has a Shopify integration. I haven’t seen many AI writing tools offer API access just yet. The API allows you to send product information to Hypotenuse and retrieve back product descriptions for your product detail pages. Access Hypotenuse’s API and fine tune your content by integrating Hypotenuse into your platform.
The Shopify integration allows you to pull your product information into Hypotenuse to generate your product descriptions.
Art Generation
Hypotenuse AI offers AI art generation. I assume it’s powered by DALL-E 2, but I could be wrong! It just looks like that to me.
What Hypotenuse AI Could Improve
Hypotenuse AI is powerful and can be a valuable asset to help you get more work done, more efficiently. That being said, there are a few areas where it could use improvement.
Search Engine Optimization
While the blog post writing workflow does enable you to ensure that certain keywords get targeted, there isn’t anything else the tool does as far as search engine optimization. If that’s your main reason to get an AI writer, then you might consider another AI writing software better for SEO. However, if that’s not as crucial to you, then this keyword targeting feature might be enough.
Hypotenuse could consider integrating with another SEO tool so that they don’t have to build out those functions themselves.
Long Form Document Editor
While Hypotenuse AI does help you generate articles using AI, it’s not an AI writing assistant. It doesn’t provide you with the ability to generate AI output as you go. Maybe that’s their intention, but really the only way to work with Hypotenuse’s blog articles feature is to generate an article and then write.
You cannot use the document editor to write original content. You could, but you’d have to go through the blog post workflow, use credits, and then delete the content it generated.
So if you don’t like something, you have to use more credits to regenerate part of the article. It’s kind of a weird workflow.
Chrome Extension
Hypotenuse AI does not offer a Chrome extension at the writing of this article. In my opinion, that’s not a big deal, but it’s a feature that some people find very important to their workflow because they like having an AI writer follow along with them in the different places they write content.
Text Summarization
Hypotenuse AI’s text summarization feature allows you to insert up to 2000 characters and summarize the content either as a paragraph or as bullet points. If you look at my screenshot, you can see I inserted the first page or so of Pride and Prejudice and accidentally generated it in Slovenian first. Then I generated it in English. Overall, it did a decent job!
However, I think Hypotenuse could improve the overall location of the summarization tool. It’s buried under a section called “Marketing Copy.” I think that title could be reworked to be more descriptive of other types of content generation options the tool provides.
Final thoughts
Hypotenuse AI is the premier AI writing tool for e-commerce. It’s designed to make brands and businesses that sell products have an easier time doing so. Hypotenuse seeks to help e-commerce sites sell their products by creating compelling product descriptions.
I wouldn’t recommend Hypotenuse AI for people who want to write long form content and have an AI assistant help them. Hypotenuse is best suited for people who want to generate content and then tweak it a bit more later on.
And that’s perfectly fine! There are quite a number of AI writing tools out there to suit different use cases. Hypotenuse AI knows their audience and targets it.
